In the movie, Forrest Gump was in this scene; in real life, I was standing about 20 feet inside the building behind the governor. I was working at registration inside the building. It was about 9:00 AM, and we were all waiting to see some excitment. A few minutes later a federal marshall escorted Vivian Malone and James Hood into the auditorium where they registered without incident. (I think it was Bob Boyd who gave me this picture.)
